No one outside of Apple really knows what products the company will release next, but that has not stopped Wall Street analysts to forecast on possible new iPhones.
Apple is expected to introduce new iPhones in September. In general, analysts are anticipating an improved version of the iPhone 5, which many refer to as the iPhone 5S with a fingerprint sensor to get past the lock screen. Also predict a low-cost iPhone with a plastic body that is available in various colors, widely referred to in iPhone 5C.
Here's a quick summary of what they are saying.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at KGI Securities, which has accurately predicted the details of some Apple products in the past, believes that the named iPhone 5S will have a faster processor, a flash of improved camera and fingerprint sensor fingerprints for security. Last year, Apple acquired AuthenTec, a company that designs fingerprint sensors. In a research note, Mr. Kuo said he thought Apple could change the way the home button that goes to the outside to create a space for the sensor, and that the material of the plastic button changes to the Sapphire to prevent damage to the sensor. Mr. Kuo also predicts the low cost version of the iPhone will be an iPhone 5 with a box of fiberglass and plastic and is available in various colors, and it will be heavier than aluminum for the iPhone 5.
Brian Marshall, an analyst at International Strategy & Investment, said Apple is due to an iPhone with a larger screen to compete with larger phones offered by Samsung. He predicts (and hope) that a big screen iPhone will be approximately 5 inches diagonally.
Gene Munster, an analyst at Piper Jaffray Investment Research, which has forecast several times a TV Apple still has not materialized, said he believed the lower cost iPhone will not only have cheaper parts, but also to exclude software features, as Siri. This seems unlikely, however, because the larger, lower-cost iPhone 4S features Siri.
